Groundhog Day Arrives, Media Makes Fun Of Silly Event, Then Covers It Relentlessly

The groundhog didn’t see his shadow today. You know, in case the frumpy woman in the cubicle next to you didn’t tell you yet. Oh, and good to see that Phil is “bucking a trend.” You’d hate to see him fall in line with all those poseur meteorological rodents. If I’m not mistaken, you can’t buck a trend if you are the only creature in the universe that crafts said trend.

Oh, and one final thought: who is the guy who actually decides what Phil “sees”? I mean, there’s got to be some guy in Punxsutawney, or perhaps a group who conduct their business in smoke-filled rooms, that ultimately decides whether he sees his shadow or not. How else would you know? Do groundhogs even understand what shadows are? I’m slowly finding myself disenchanted with a theatrical display of ritualistic, animal-based prognostication. I don’t know if I’m going to get out of bed tomorrow morning.
