About nothing and everything. Mostly nothing.

College football recruiting is a fickle mistress. It also hates you, promising young football player.

There is something undeniably seedy about grown men obsessing over the physical prowesses of high school-aged young men, and loudly proclaiming their ravenous desire to have them join their football program.  It’s a barren wasteland of overblown expectations and inappropriate emotional investment.

For evidence of this, I give you Jonas Gray, the running back who just decommitted from the Nebraska Cornhuskers this week, and just committed to Notre Dame not one hour ago.

It appears the turmoil in the Nebraska program (fired and brand new AD, a head coach with third-degree burns on his posterior) turned Gray off of the Huskers, and their fall is Notre Dame’s gain.

Interested in learning a bit about the new recruit joining my alma mater, I did a quick YouTube search looking for some film.  I came upon this video detailing his commitment to Nebraska:

Now, let me remind you that Gray committed to Notre Dame LESS THAN ONE HOUR AGO.  Here’s the most recent comment on the video:

thomasdm2 (52 minutes ago) ShFirst of all, he is leaving nebraska to go to a real up and comer, notre Dame? you got to be kidding me. i bet that stupid fuck does think that 1 win is better than 4 he sounds so fucking stupid in this interview. have fun in south bend you sick son of a bitch

Hooray, football, the only place where adults can call teenagers”sick sons of bitches” for making a decision that has no real relevance to their day-to-day life!

And while this isn’t entirely relevant to the post, and while mining YouTube comments for examples of idiocy and poor spelling run rampant is like shooting fish in a shot glass, but I couldn’t help but see this brief exchange as a microcosm of what Michigan fans can expect to hear from rival fans for the duration of their existence on this planet.
